About Us
I moved to Australia in 2003 to seek out a new life after growing up in the UK, It was my dream to work hard and create a better life for myself and for my family. In leaving a very dififcult life in the UK i left behind all of my immediate family and my dogue de bordeaux Hooch. Moving here was very hard, moving so far away with no family or friends or support structure but it was the best thing i have ever done and it has given me a quality of life most people could only dream of.
In leaving Europe i left behind my dogue de bordeaux Hooch and once i got settled i started to look for a new dogue purchased from here in Australia. My initial findings were obviously a shock as the standard od dogue de bordeaux in Australia compared to Europe was at that time massively different. I contacted many breeders and started to search for my new dogue. Like most new comeres i was frustrated at the lack of response and also the bitchyness that seemed to come part in parcel with many of the breeders.
After i got through the polotics and finally convinced a breeder to let me have a puppy i was over the moon as i had finally found my dogue. I would later add 3 more to my clan and then set my sights on breeding my own dogues. I had high hopes and plenty of ambition to boot, however as my dogs matured i started to realise that these dogs were not the standard of dogues i had dreamed of owning and one day breeding. I loved them dearly and they were like my children however i had to ask myself if in breeding these dogs would i be adding to the breeds development in Australia? I later started to see that some of the dogs displayed health issues, some were minor issues some more serious. The breeder i had thought so highly of quickly showed there true colours and took no responsibility what soever which appauled me. Even knowing these health issues continued to occur they denied it and continued to breed these dogs regardless of the ongoing health issues.
I had to be honest with myself and ask myself how i wanted to
continue my dogue journey and if these lines/ dogs were the f
oundation for which i wanted to build my breeding future.
The answer was no!!!! i had to start again.....
In anything i do in life i want to be the best and the only way you can
do that is to associate yourself with the best and find out what has
made them so successful. I decided it was time to re think and re
start my breeders journey. The next few years were spent on the
phone and on the internet and on a plane travelling to see dogues
in person rather than just on the websites i spent my nights studying.
I saw magnificent dogues of such a high standard that inspired my
imagination and showed me the way forward. I knew if i wanted to
breed the dogs i loved so much i would have to build a foundation
of dogs from world class bloodlines.
This was not going to be easy or cheap lol but i was committed to the breed and my part in its development. The next 4 years saw financial and personal sacrifice and i must of hounded the top breeders into submission with so many questions and requests for help.
Finally i started to get to a point where i could own the dogs i wanted that would enable me to breed the quality of dogs in the future that i dreamed of.
I am of course leaving out so much of what took place over the last 5 years as i simply do not have the time however i feel it is essential that anyone who wishes to breed these dogues does so with the right intentions and with an honest look at why they want to do so.
So many so called "Breeders" in Australia simply put any two dogs together with no concept of the dogs qualities or if they will benefit the breeds development. So many speak of type and structure in there dogs with no real idea of what that actually should be or mean in choosing breeding dogs.
The sad thing is that many people despite there fancy websites and wonderful speeches simply breed for financial gains. Each generation of there dog are as bland and sub par as the previous ones and the dogs they pass on for breeding to others with even less knowledge simply dilute the gene pool and hamper the breeds development
I do not profess to be the upmost expert on the breed or have the best dogs in the world but i am as dedicated to the breed and to dogs as anyone you will ever meet and above all else i am honest, to myself and to other people. You will not get sugar coated crap with me you will always get the truth regardless of if others would like it or not.
I can only give the advice others have given to me and i can only give you information based on my own journey thus far and what i have learned. I do believe that we have gathered an exceptional group of dogs together chosen from some of the best breeders and bloodlines around the world.
Many people would kill to be where we are in such a short time. It has been very hard work and many lessons good and bad have had to be experienced. I have high hopes for my future and my dogs role in developing the breed in Australia. I have gone to the very best to gather dogs that will allow us to one day breed exceptional dogs.
Its not a quick fix its a life long journey, many of the te worlds elite breeders have been breeding for over 20 years and are still learning. Many people ask why i have imported so many dogs and will continue to do so, the fact is that to my taste and my opinion there are very few breeders in Australia who have dogs that will benefit my breeding ambitions. They do not have the bloodlines or more importantly the ability to see past petty agendas and look honestly at the dogs they are breeding and the quality they are reproducing. Yet they continue to breed over and over with the same flawed lines and sub par dogs. I WILL NOT ADD TO THE PROBLEM BY COMPOUNDING ONE MISTAKE AFTER ANOTHER. Importing new lines and sensible breeding of existing ones is the only way. There are so few breeders in Australia that understand that and they are usually the ones lablelled as snobs or bitches...so be it
You must strive to find knowledge and always want to learn even if that means being honest about the standards of your own dogs.
But if you learn from the wrong people and dont ask the right questions you will never learn at all, some are incapable of learning because they are unwilling to ask the right questions and submit to the truth of the answers.
My dogs are my family and my family is my life, i continue to learn and work hard to develop all aspects of my family and myself to enable me to asist them to the best of my ability. In future years i hope with my heart that we can breed dogs that other people appreciate and by owning them enjoy the fruits of all of my hard work
until then i continue to learn, i continue to love this breed and i continue to enjoy every second i spend with my beloved dogs. I look forward to every opportunity to learn new things from breeders all over the world and i know i have a long way to go but i feel sure that i am walking the right path to get there.....
Kindest Regards
Carl
